Thomas L. Snyder

April 16, 1927 — June 29, 2025

St. Marys

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of a beloved father, grandfather and friend

- a man whose warmth, humor and unwavering faith touched everyone who knew him.

Thomas L. Snyder, 98, of 911 Plymouth Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2025, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born April 16, 1927, in Daguscahonda, son of the late Joseph and Caroline Schatz Snyder.

On April 16, 1948, he married Betty Luchs of Ridgway. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage before her passing in 2000.

Early on, he was employed at Corbett Cabinet Company and later worked for many years at Stackpole Carbon where he retired from. He is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and a longtime member of Queen of the World Church. A devoted family man, he was a proud father and grandfather whose greatest joy was simply being with those he loved. Whether it was camping trips with his family and friends, lively games of cards or sharing a laugh with a well-timed joke, he made every moment feel special. He was generous with advice and wisdom, always sharing gems like don't take any wooden nickels, close only counts in horseshoes, and you gotta start somewhere. His faith guided him throughout his life, and his commitment to his church and community was a true reflection of his generous spirit. He was a tireless volunteer and always the first to lend a hand. He was a driver for Meals on Wheels and visited the homebound and residents of the local nursing homes. Even in his 90s, he remained impressively active, still cutting firewood and living life with energy and purpose. In his younger days, he could often be found around a horseshoe pit or sitting by the campfire. And nearly every day, right up until he became ill, he played cards with the same enthusiasm he brought to all he did. His legacy is one of laughter, love, service and strength. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who have the privilege of knowing him.

Tom is survived by two daughters, Gayle Piccolo and Ginny (Nate) Wilson; two granddaughters, Kelli (Seth) Hall and Alaina Wilson; and two step-granddaughters, Barb (Greg) Mahoney and Debby (George) Young, all of St. Marys, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his next-door neighbors, The Swangers, whom he considered his extended family.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sons; Jack, Ronald and Joseph; his grandson; Tom Piccolo; his brother; Clifford (Cathy) Snyder; his sister; Martha (Dave) Blessel, his sister Rita Mae in infancy; and by his beloved dog, Chloe.
