Steve "Hummer" Thorwart, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, December 3rd at Pinecrest Manor surrounded by his family.
Hummer was born May 18th, 1957, in Ridgway and was the son of Patricia (VonArx) and Alan Thorwart. He is survived by his sister Diane (Jaime Leitzel), his seven brothers, Den (Janine), Ed (Mary), Ron (Meredith), Don (Paula), Mike, Gary, Bill, daughter Erica, grandchildren Oakley, Jaxson, and a new baby boy coming in January, and many nieces and nephews.
He resided in Ridgway his entire life, where he went to high school, played sports, and raised a family. He was a dedicated contractor who wouldn't accept anything less than perfection in each project he worked on, from bathrooms, to kitchens, to full remodels and additions. He prided himself in his work ethic and the quality of work he delivered.
Hummer grew up playing and coaching sports. During his coaching career, he helped lead the Ridgway boy's basketball team to a championship, and later in his life, turned his coaching skills to helping his daughter and her teammates learn the foundational skills of both basketball and t-ball. Even when he wasn't the head coach throughout Erica's high school athletics, we all knew Hummer was in the stands, probably yelling louder than the coach.
If you know Hummer, you know you could always find him either on a golf course or shooting pool. He loved the games and loved spending that time with his friends. He loved the mental game these sports brought, and he was extremely competitive within himself, which is why most of his friends and teammates have seen on multiple occasions a golf club flying across the green or a pool stick broken in half.
Hummer would have given the shirt off his back for his family and friends. His biggest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow.
A celebration of life for Steven "Hummer" Thorwart, will be celebrated on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Krise Funeral Home from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Hummer's devotion to his family and friends will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
