Peter F. Niedzwecki

Jan 12, 1940 — Oct 3, 2026

Peter F. Niedzwecki, born on January 12, 1940, in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, peacefully departed this world on October 3, 2026, after a long illness. He was a man of profound integrity, unwavering optimism, and boundless kindness. The son of Peter John and Mary Niedzwecki (Nagley), Peter was predeceased by his beloved parents, who instilled in him the values that he carried throughout his life.

On September 25, 1962, Peter married the love of his life, Joyce, in the town of his birth. Together, they shared 61 "years of wedded bliss," building a family filled with love and laughter. His legacy continues through his cherished children, Peter J and Stefanie, and his adored grandchildren, Olivia and Alex, who were the light of his life. Peter is also survived by his dear sister, Theresa, who held a special place in his heart, and his beloved niece and nephew, Michelle and Michael.

Peter's academic journey began at St Leo's High School, where he was awarded an academic scholarship upon graduation. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1962, a testament to his dedication and intellectual ability. This foundation led him to a distinguished 43-year career at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin, where he worked in the naval nuclear propulsion program with expertise and a steadfast commitment to excellence.

A man of deep faith, Peter was a devoted parishioner at St Valentines Catholic Church, where he found solace and community. Beyond his professional and spiritual life, Peter was an avid runner, a passionate gardener, and a lover of books. His inquisitive nature and love for learning never waned, and he found joy in the companionship of his pet cats, who faithfully guarded his gardens over the years. Being born and raised in Ridgway, on the edge of the Allegheny National Forest, Peter had a lifelong love of being in the woods and nature. He cherished celebrating Wedding Anniversaries with his beloved wife at the Clarion River Lodge in Cooks Forest. He also was greatly fond of long hikes in the forests around Ridgway, sometimes going all the way down to Brockway on the Clarion-Little Toby Trail.

Peter's warmth and friendliness endeared him to all who knew him. His honesty and optimism were a beacon to his family and friends, and his example as a devoted husband and loving father will be cherished forever.
