Marcella A. Stanisch

December 12, 1921 — March 23, 2026

Marcella A. "Sally" Stanisch, 104, a resident of Silver Creek Terrace and formerly of Virginia Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully after a long, full life on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.

She was born on December 12, 1921 in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Paul and Loretta Wehler Bankovich.

On May 22, 1954, at St. Marys Church, she married the late Maximilian "Boobie" Stanisch, who preceded her in death on September 30, 2013. Together they were blessed with nearly 59 years of love, laughter, and marriage.

Sally was a lifelong resident of the area and member of St. Marys Church, where she was active as a volunteer with the bereavement luncheons. She also volunteered for many years at the St. Marys Parochial School. Early on, she worked for a number of years at Pure Carbon. Sally was an avid Bingo player who also enjoyed bowling and playing cards. Most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

She is survived by five children; Loretta "Lori" Prokop-Saleh and her husband George Saleh of St. Marys, Stephen Stanisch and his wife Mary Sue of St. Marys, Sue Vargo and her husband Don of Monroeville, Mary Ann Stanisch of St. Marys, PA, and Max Stanisch and his wife Laura of Kane; and by her ten beloved grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four in-laws; Vera Bankovich, Sandy Bankovich, Paul Schade, and Ron Stanish, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Sally was preceded in death by three brothers; Norman Bankovich, Leander "Pint" Bankovich, Jerome "Beezie" Bankovich, and by one brother in infancy, and by four sisters; Helen "Mutchie" Wendel, Alice Schade, Esther Kirkland, and Marian Viglione and by one son-in-law; John Prokop.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Marcella A. "Sally" Stanisch will be celebrated on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Ignatius Camello, OSB, as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received at the St. Marys Church on Friday, April 17, 2026 from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass.


Memorial Contributions may be made to the Penn Highlands Adult Day Center, the Ridgway Fire Department, or to a favorite charity.
