Joan M. Challingsworth

Joan M. Challingsworth, 89, of Taft Road, St. Marys, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Elk Haven Nursing Home.

She was born on January 18, 1937 in Johnsonburg, PA, a daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Raffeinner Lynch.

On September 13, 1955, she married the late Donald Challingsworth, who preceded her in death on April 5, 2021. Together they were blessed with more than 65 years of marriage.

Joan was a faithful and devoted member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church and a proud graduate of Johnsonburg High School. She worked at Windfall Products for numerous years, but the role she treasured most was simply being there for the people she loved. Her family was truly the center of her world, and nothing brought her greater happiness than time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose love could be felt in so many of the little things she did-whether it was something homemade from her kitchen, a quilt lovingly stitched together, or simply making sure the people she loved were cared for. She especially treasured family trips to the Jersey Shore, where some of her happiest memories were made surrounded by the people who meant the most to her. She found joy in quilting, baking, family traditions, and the simple blessing of being together. Her family was her greatest accomplishment, her greatest source of pride, and undoubtedly the greatest love of her life.

She is survived by five sons; David Challingsworth and his wife Yvonne, Glen (Jan) Challingsworth, John Challingsworth, Robert Challingsworth and his wife Lori, all of St. Marys, and Mark Challingsworth and his wife Sara of Philadelphia. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her two sisters, Janet Tassone and Jeanne Brooks, and by one sister in early childhood, Monica Lynch.

Funeral Services for Joan M. Challingsworth will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, Washington Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Pastor Scott Wiest officiating.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Protestant Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
