Gary A. Sorg, 68, of St. Marys, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Sena Kean Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after an illness of the past 5 months.
Gary was born on December 25, 1956 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Charles and Mabel Rollick Sorg.
He attended St Marys Area Schools and graduated from SMAHS, class of 1975. From his youth, Gary loved sports and was an exceptional athlete playing local knothole, All Star and Legion Baseball. During high school he played football, competing in the "Big 30" game in NY. Gary was a fanatical Pittsburgh Steelers fan and could be found at his son Chuck's home, donned in his Steelers garb, having a feast while watching every Steelers game.
He was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing. He had a special cooking talent which his daughter Rosalynn has certainly inherited. Those who knew him would agree his venison and liver sausage was the best.
Gary was a member of the Camp Owners Association, the PFL, CMF, and the Horton Township Sportsman's Club. He especially enjoyed meeting with and talking to his friends at the PFL.
Gary is survived by two children; Rosalynn (Joe) Rooney of Falls Creek and Charles "Chuck" (Nicole Skrzypek) Sorg of Kersey, and by his three beloved grandchildren; Sophia, Foster and Coen Rooney. He is also survived by two siblings; Glenn (Genevieve) Sorg of and Deborah (James) Schneider, both of St. marys, and by a special long time friend; Teva Farley of St. Marys. He is also survived by two nieces; Tracy Schneider and Jamie Chicola.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a nephew; Shane Schneider and by his beloved cat; Midnight.
Gary was a colorful character to say the least and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Gary A. Sorg will be celebrated on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Sacred Heart Church, 337 Center Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Igantius Camello, OSB, as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery,
Family and friends will be received at the Sacred Heart Church on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Elk County Humane Society.
