Esther "Sis" Herzing

Esther M. "Sis" Herzing, 95, formerly of Bucktail Road, St. Marys, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Elk Haven Nursing Home surrounded by the love of her family. Sis was able to join her husband and son in Heaven to celebrate Christmas together.

She was born on March 9, 1930 in St.. Marys, PA, a daughter of the late Marinus and Pauline Reisel Vollmer. On September 30, 1948, she married the love of her life, Jerome Herzing, who preceded her in death on February 1, 2021. Together they walked hand in hand through 73 years of marriage, with two hearts becoming one on the day they married.

Sis was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1948, and a member of Queen of the World Church. In her early years, Sis worked at G.C. Murphy and later at Thrift Drug. Avid travelers, Sis and Jerry visited 49 states over the years, adventuring to anywhere the wind took them. Sis loved the ocean and they would visit the shore at least twice per year. Having traveled at least a million miles throughout the United States, Sis and Jerry never took the interstate, instead preferring the back roads to get where they were going. Wherever Sis and Jerry's travels took them, Sis delighted in returning with gifts from their adventures for her children. Known for a meticulous house, Sis's house was always spic and span, never a dust bunny in sight. She enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, reading, crafting, and painting ceramics. Having went to be with the Lord on Christmas Day speaks to Sis's love of Christmas, always with a beautiful tree and handmade Christmas ornaments. A wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be remembered for the love of her family and friends, especially gathering each Sunday to share dinner together.

She is survived by ten children; Paula (Robert "Denny") Coudriet, of St. Marys, Mary (Chuck) Hahn, of Kersey, Gloria (Tom) Kaveney, of St. Marys, Debbie (Richard "Dutch") Swackhammer, of St. Marys, Janice (Jan) Blair, of Cleveland, OH, Joyce Sorg, of St. Marys, Michael (Kim) Herzing, of WY, Matthew (Lori) Herzing, of CO, Mark (Kate) Herzing, of Kersey, and Gerald "Jay" Herzing, of NM; and by her 22 beloved grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by one brother; Donald "Bib" (Arlene) Vollmer of St. Marys, by a sister-in-law; Patty Vollmer of Toby as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Esther was preceded in death by her a son, Jerome Herzing; son-in-law, Anthony Sorg; and by two brothers; Clarence "Boy" Vollmer and Jerome "Kid" Vollmer.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Esther M. Herzing will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 12:30 PM, at Queen of the World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Jeffery Noble, Pastor, as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home on Monday, December 29, 2025 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
