Elizabeth "Betty" Peterson

Elizabeth "Betty" Peterson, 86, of Ridgway, died on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

She was born on May 3, 1939, in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Daniel and Bernice Heindl O'Connell.

On May 3, 1958, in Ridgway, she married the late Donald S. Peterson, who preceded her in death on December 31, 2018.

Betty worked as a cashier at Market Basket, retiring in 2001 after many years of service. She enjoyed relaxing on her porch playing cards, feeding the wildlife, and going on lunch dates. Betty greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She found immense happiness in the laughter and joy shared with her children and grandchildren, embracing every adventure life presented to them. A passionate traveler, Betty enjoyed spending time in Florida, where she created lasting memories and established deep friendships that would carry on for decades.

She is survived by two daughters; Patti Toney and her husband Dan, and Lori Farace and her husband Phil, a son; Paul Peterson and his wife Dottie, nine grandchildren; Tony, Stacy, Tim, Kelly, Elizabeth, Christopher, Morgan, Ryan, and Sarah, and ten great-grandchildren; Kayleigh, Isabella, Noelle, Ella, Carson, Clara, Jack, Nora, Oliver, and Gwendolyn. She is also survived by a sister; Kathleen Reynolds and her husband Ellwyn.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Peterson and a sister, Janice Brunner.

Funeral services for Elizabeth Peterson are being held privately by the family.

Burial will be at St. Leo's Cemetery.
